On November 2nd, 2014, a moist and grey morning in the City of Powell River, the congregation of St David/St. Paul gathered for a Parish Blessing of a new public labyrinth located on the church grounds as part of the Sycamore Commons Permaculture Garden project. Sycamore Commons is currently one of three recipients of financial aid from the Diocese’s flow through fundraising initiative, care+share.
According to priest-in-charge, the Reverend Adela Torchia “Like many other aspects of the permaculture garden, this is meant for public use, and in fact is the only public labyrinth in the Powell River area.”
The blessing was led by St David/St Paul’s honorary assistant, the Reverend Paula Sampson and photos were taken by Ian MacKenzie and Ron Berezan. In the accompanying photos we see the parish gathered for the blessing with the industrial skyline of Powell River over the ridge. After the blessing prayers each member walked the rest of the circle they were in and received a cedar branch which they dipped in Holy Water and sprinkled it thus sharing in the blessing led by Rev. Sampson.
