The Reverend Dr. Wendy Fletcher, Principal and Dean of the Vancouver School of Theology
announced July 23rd that the Rev. Dr. Richard Leggett (currently on sabbatical) has chosen to take early retirement from his position at VST. Richard was Associate Dean of the School and Professor of Liturgical Studies.
Richard currently serves as an Honorary Priest at
St. Faith's Anglican church where his partner Paula is the Incumbent.
An advocate for the importance of liturgy in the church, Richard has been (and will continue to be) a champion of exploring new liturgical forms. In a recent article he said, "
I celebrate an Anglican tradition that does not enslave me to a particular period in time, whether past or present, and, more importantly, calls me out of my consumer-minded concern about 'me' and 'my needs' into a corporate vision of what God is up to in the stuff of life."
Richard has been named Emeritus Professor of Liturgical Studies and will continue his association with VST.
Retirement celebrations for Richard will be linked to the VST 40th Anniversary and Annual Convocation ceremonies to be held May, 2011.
