Boston-based Zina Schiff and Hungarian-born pianist Zsuzsanna Lukacs will be offering the opening concert in a new series of monthly presentations at St. John’s, Shaughnessy, on Saturday, May 5th at 8pm.
“From Hollywood, with Love” is the musical theme of the evening, as the repertoire will be selections by George Gershwin, Aaron Copeland and Erich Zeisl, all of whom wrote music for the movies, along with their classical works, which will be featured this evening.
Violinist Zina Schiff has been described by the New York Times as an instrumentalist of “luscious high voltage...vintage Heifetz.” The comparison to the legendary Heifetz is apt, as Zina is a Heifetz protegée. With her special blend of passion, poetry and communicative power, she is a world-class performer who has dazzled audiences throughout North America, Eastern and Western Europe, Israel, Australia, and New Zealand. Pianist Zsuzsanna Lukacs has performed extensively both as a soloist and collaborative pianist in Europe, Canada and the US. Vancouver-based, Zsuzsanna has collaborated with the UBC Opera Ensemble, UBC Choral Union, Vancouver Opera, Opera Breve, Opera Appassionata, Opera ProCantanti and the Okanagan Vocal Arts Festival. Zina and Zsuzsanna have performed together several times at Vancouver’s acclaimed Chutzpah Festival.
