The Parish of St. Helen's at West 8th and Trimble has had a very energetic centennial year so far with a number of community activities held throughout the year, but two very special Centenary events are planned for September.
An invitation is extended to all current and former members of St. Helen’s:
September 16, Centennial Service, presided over by Bishop Michael Ingham at 10am

September 22, Centennial Dinner, a celebratory night for current and former parishioners

All September, Centennial Penny Drive to support the Neighbourhood Ministry to the Homeless in West Point Grey.
Planning and fundraising continue for its three Centennial “Opening Doors” Projects:

*** Welcoming Entrance and Bell Tower
The entrance to the church from West 8th Avenue will be reconfigured to make it more visible and welcoming. At the same time, St. Helen’s historic bell is being restored and housed in a simple new Bell Tower at the front door. The original bell tower was destroyed in the 1971 fire. [Scheduled for the end of 2012 or early 2013.]

*** Music-Welcoming Hardwood Floor in Chancel for the Church and Community
To enhance the music - which is at the heart of both worship at St. Helen’s and community use of the church - the carpeted floor in the chancel is being replaced with a more resonant and music-friendly hardwood floor. [Installation in August 2012.]

*** Neighbourhood Ministry Homeless Outreach
Reaching out to the Homeless on the Westside has been the central outreach project for St. Helen’s for the past five years, since it was envisioned by St. Helen’s Vocational Deacon, Rev. Pitman Potter. A significant portion (target of $50,000) of the funds raised during the Centennial campaign will be allocated to this outreach work, including monies raised from a Penny Drive to be held this September. [Ongoing.]

September Penny Drive in support of the Neighbourhood Ministry

As part of their Centennial initiatives, St. Helen’s has set a goal of $50,000 to support the Neighbourhood Ministry to the Homeless in West Point Grey. The parish is holding a Penny Drive in September with all proceeds benefitting the Neighbourhood Ministry program. The community is invited to participate by donating their pennies with tax receipts issued for donations of $20 or more. Please drop off your pennies, rolled or loose, weekdays at the church office, 4405 W. 8th, or at the Sunday worship services at 8 or 10am. For pick up, call 604-224-0212
If you would like to support one or more of St. Helen’s Centennial Projects, please contact Joan Stewart, chair Stewardship Committee, direct at 604.805.7315, or call the church office at 604.224.0212.
