Our congregation participated in the "Ringing of the Bells" to remember the 1,181 indigenous women and girls who were reported missing or murdered between 1986 & 2012.
With great generosity of spirit Lori Dixon attended to participate in the ritual with us. She spoke eloquently and from the heart reminding us that "we all suffer from the same history", which flows out of the Residential school debacle and the arrogant attitudes many European settlers had (and still have?) to our First Nations bretheren. This event flowed out of the natural interest and commitment of the St. Hilda’s parish to be in solidarity with our First Nations brothers and sisters, especially as St. Hilda’s is situated on the unceded traditional territory of the Shíshálh First Nation.
On Tuesday, June 2, 2015 we will be opening our doors at 6:00 am (9 am EDT) Tuesday morning and we invite anyone who is interested in watching the live release of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission Report to come watch it together on the big-screen TV in the Gathering Room.
