Mission to Seafarers in the Port of Vancouver is seeking volunteers to join its Board.

What is Mission to Seafarers?
Mission to Seafarers is a non-profit welfare charity of the Anglican Church serving merchant seafarers by providing help and support to men and women of all backgrounds and faiths who are visiting ports far from home.

In the Port of Vancouver, the Mission operates from two locations – Waterfront Center in Vancouver Harbour and the Roberts Bank Center in Delta. Services available at these locations include a recreation center with free access to Wi-Fi, assistance with contacting family or making money transfers, package delivery, transportation, shopping, clothing, and on request, emotional and spiritual support through personal counselling or visits.

The Board

Oversight and assistance in strategic planning for the Mission is provided by a group of up to twelve volunteer members of a Board of Directors, some of whom work in the marine community. Together they represent a variety of backgrounds, skills and lived experience and all are jointly committed to the mission of “promoting and providing for the spiritual, moral, physical and mental wellbeing of all seafarers and their families.” Board members are elected for an initial period of three years, with the possibility for renewal for a further three years.

At present, we have a number of current and upcoming vacancies in our Board of Directors. We welcome all interested applicants committed to improving and supporting services to seafarers, but to achieve balance and diversity around our boardroom table and ensure continued excellence in the delivery of our services, preference will be given to individuals with backgrounds or experience in informatics and social networking, fundraising, communications, and community engagement and outreach.
