Tom Ganabel, left, and the Rev. Kevin Dixon, rector of St. Mary’s Kerrisdale, Vancouver, are shown some of the cooking utensils provided by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees to refugees throughout the world by Holy Moyo on World Refugee Day.
They are inside a tent of the type in which refugees can live for years. It was set up at Library Square, Vancouver. Ganabel is a recent refugee from southern Nigeria, and Moyo, a parishioner at Christ Church Cathedral, has come from Zimbabwe by way of South Africa.
t. Mary’s is about to sponsor a refugee as part of the 50-year anniversary of the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund. PWRDF’s goal is to have 50 refugee families sponsored by Anglican parishes and other church groups throughout Canada during the year.
Recently, the parishes in the North Vancouver deanery have agreed to together sponsor two refugee families.
