The Bishop has appointed a Director of Diaconal Formation, restoring a position that has been dormant for the past several years. When the Vancouver School of Theology launched its Anglican Diploma in Diaconal Studies, it was no longer considered necessary for the Diocese to have a person dedicated to the educational formation of individual diaconal candidates. Experience has shown, however, that while the VST diploma remains the "gold standard" for diaconal education, the wide-ranging circumstances of people who are sensing a call to diaconal ordination may at times require thoughtfully applied flexibility.

The Ven. Bruce Morris has accepted the position of Director of Diaconal Formation and will bring his previous experience as Archdeacon for Deacons into his new work with those seeking ordination as a deacon. Bruce will guide and oversee candidates' academic undertakings, and work alongside the Ven. Peggy Trendell-Jensen, Archdeacon for Deacons, to prepare clergy and parishes for fruitful discernment processes and internship opportunities.  Bruce was one of the first deacons ordained in the Diocese of New Westminster and served at St. Hilda’s in Sechelt for 27 years until his retirement in 2022.
