With the support of the diocese and Bishop John Stephens, the Justice and Peace Unit is endorsing the intent of the Peace Train initiative whose goal is to re-establish conversation and action in Canada regarding our role in ‘Negotiating’ towards peace throughout the world. This will involve meetings in November in Ottawa with politicians and organizations working towards peaceful solutions in our world. The website on the attached poster has a description of this intent along with a petition to parliament which Canadians are invited to sign.
Folks who will be on the Peace Train leaving Vancouver, Friday November 15, 2024 will be in attendance at the gathering at Canadian Memorial Church Thursday eve Nov. 14 at 6:00 pm.
They will be welcomed by supporters along their journey to Ottawa and met there by other leaders in this peace initiative.
Kathleen Wallace-Deering a long time supporter of Ploughshares, a National organization working towards peace in Canada and member of St. Laurence Coquitlam reflects on her support of this initiative towards Canada’s role now, once again taking our role as Canadians towards negotiations rather than violence to solve our world issues. You can download and read her reflection A Call to Support the Peace Train, below.
The Justice and Peace Unit of the diocese is firmly in support of this way of engaging in our world as Canadians. In the midst of so much that divides, Canada can lead peace-building in our world. Submitted by The Rev. Margaret Marquardt.
Please be in touch with The Rev. Margaret Marquardt Chair of the Justice and Peace Unit for any further inquiries.
