On Tuesday, April 22 Archbishop John Stephens sent a letter to Archbishop Michael Miller, the Roman Catholic archbishop who leads the Archdiocese of Vancouver, extending his condolences on the death of Pope Francis. The letter is available at the bottom of this page. 

Pope Francis died on Easter Monday, April 21, at the age of 88. The pope had recently spent five weeks in hospital in Rome, recovering from multimicrobial double pneumonia. On the morning of April 21, the pontiff suffered a stroke, which led to a coma and irreversible cardiorespiratory failure. 

The Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver is holding a Memorial Mass for Pope Francis on Thursday, April 24. The pope's funeral takes place at the Vatican on Saturday, April 26.
