The St. George’s Anglican Church Street Ministry, organizers of a community dinner that takes place at the CEED Centre, Saturday evenings, 7pm on 223rd Street in Maple Ridge has been chosen by the readers of the Maple Ridge News as their favourite charitable organization in the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows region.
Second and third in the voting were The Ridge Meadows Hospice and The Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation.
The survey results were published on page B5 of the September 28th edition.
The community meal is the street ministry work of volunteers, mostly from St. George’s Anglican Church. The ministry was initiated by the Reverend Robert Mitchell, deacon of St. George’s who died of brain cancer in 2010. He began the ministry by walking the streets handing out sandwiches to the hungry and dreaming of doing more.
Thanks to an agreement with the CEED Centre, the participants sit inside a warm cozy building in community with others and enjoy homemade soups, casseroles, lots of hot coffee and of course sandwiches.
Congratulations to the parish of St. George’s who are certainly living into their calling to serve in the world as disciples of Jesus Christ.
