Investiture of New Members to the ODNW 2016

Diocesan volunteers, the Office of the Bishop, and Synod Office staff are well underway in organzing the 2016 Investiture of New Members to the Order of the Diocese of New Westminster, Saturday, November 5, 10:30am at the Massey Theatre located at 735 8th Avenue, New Westminster on the grounds of the New Westminster Secondary School.  

The investiture fo 49 parish nominees and 9 nominated by Bishop Sklelton will take place within the context of a service of Morning Prayer. Bishop Skelton will lead the prayers and preach. Michael Dirk, organist and director of music at St. John’s, Shaughnessy will be the organist leading the music in worship with an octet of choristers from St. John’s directed by Ann Chen.  

An offering will be received and envelopes will be provided. This year the offering will be directed to a special fund to stimulate new congregational starts and new parish initiatives as a way to honour ODNW recipients’ dedication to building up of the Church. 

At the conclusion of worship, a light snack will be served to all who wish to partake in the New Westminster Secondary School’s small gymnasium located down the hall and around the corner from the theatre doors. There will be signage and a team of greeters available to direct members of the congregation to the small gymnasium.  

Those arriving at the Massey Theatre by car are cautioned to pay special attention to the parking signage and only park in the Massey Theatre public parking designated areas.  

In May of 2016, Diocesan Council passed a motion amending  Canon 22, the Canon relating to The Order of the Diocese of New Westminster. Beginning with this year, 2016, new members to the ODNW will be nominated and invested every two years.  The next Investiture of New Members to the Order of the Diocese of New Westminster will occur on a date close to November 1, All Saints’ Day, 2018.
