On November 8, 2013, Super Typhoon Haiyan, hit the Philippines’ Eastern Visayas Region. The devastation and loss of life is widespread and ongoing.
PWRDF partner Father Rex Reyes, General Secretary of the National Council of Churches of the Philippines (NCCP), sent this message: "I bid you pray for the repose of the dead, comfort to the survivors and strength to those who minister to their needs. Give of yourself that God's love may be made real."
The Canadian government has announced a matching grant program for donations to relief work in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan. Between November 9 and December 9, 2013, all donations received for typhoon relief from Canadians by registered charities—including PWRDF—will be matched, dollar for dollar, by the Canadian government. Relief agencies including PWRDF will be able to apply to the Typhoon Haiyan Relief Fund to enhance relief projects in the Philippines, although there is no guarantee that any project or agency will receive funding from the Relief Fund.
PWRDF has pledged an initial response of $20,000 towards the ACT Alliance appeal to be implemented by the NCCP in the Philippines.
