This year's St. Philip's Day celebration at St. Philip's Dunbar was extra special as the parish held a service to kick off their commemoration of 90 years of prayer and service. Last Sunday's service marked this occasion with guest musicians on brass and harp, a 90th anniversary hymn, a Strawberry Tea after the service, and the blessing of a new baptismal font.
The font was blessed at the beginning of the service; water was poured into the font for the first time by Sarah Burns, a warden of the parish, and Norah Mix, a young member of St Philip's. The new font is made of wood, engraved with a celtic knot pattern and a large etched glass bowl, it is dedicated to the glory of God and in loving memory of Great-aunt Win Halliday by Brenda Harrison and family - “from generation, to generation”. It sits at the front of the worship space as a constant, visible reminder of baptism.
St Philip's will continue their 90th Anniversary celebrations with a number of events in the coming months; on May 24th they will hold a 90th Anniversary Evensong featuring Bishop Melissa as the preacher and Musica Intima.
