The Executive Archdeacon assists the Bishop of the diocese to fulfill their episcopal duties in a number of ways which include but are not limited to:
a) Personnel and pastoral matters related to the priests and deacons of the diocese
b) Supporting and working collaboratively with regional archdeacons, regional deans, the Archdeacon for Deacons, and the Dean of the Diocese in their connections with clergy and in parishes and their attention to the pastoral needs of clergy and their families
c) Overseeing parishes in transition and the search process to include leading the interim group, working directly and through archdeacons with parishes in transition
d) Overseeing the recruitment, discernment processes and ordination processes for priests and deacons
e) Serving as a resource for parishes in specific areas of human resources and employment
f) Serving as a resource for the diocese in terms of required training of all clergy
g) Serving as a resource for the diocese in terms of specific canonical areas (licensing, canonical changes, etc.)
h) Serving as the first point of contact in any misconduct case
i) When requested, serving as the Bishop’s Commissary when the bishop is away from the diocese
