With the summer well into it’s latter half, it’s time to begin thinking – with refreshed minds and souls – about the possibilities the fall season brings. At the diocesan Learning Centre the fall season brings a buffet of new opportunities to help us dive deeper into what it means to live out the Anglican faith today.
The fall lineup of offerings brings something for everyone:
-On October 5 the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell will be in Vancouver. He will give a free public lecture at Christ Church Cathedral. His talk will focus on discipleship. In the lead up to that lecture, The Learning Centre is offering a four-week book study using the book “Hit the Ground Kneeling” by Archbishop Cottrell. It is an exploration of how our society views and measures leadership, how that view hinders us, and what leadership could look like if we held it up to the lens of our faith. The book study begins Thursday, September 5 at 7pm. It takes place on Zoom, so you can join in wherever you are. Get more details or register here.
-In partnership with Living Systems, The Learning Centre is pleased to present a six part course on Bowen Family Systems Theory beginning September 10. Intended to give clergy and faith leaders tools to begin thinking about their own role and function within their family as well as their role within their faith communities. This online course is led by the Rev. Sharon Salomons, who is an Anglican priest and Registered Clinical Counsellor. Cost details, schedule and registration are available here.
-A workshop for Lay Pastoral Visitors will be held September 28 from 9:30am to 12pm. The workshop is in person / onsite only at St. Laurence church is Coquitlam. The Rev. Sharon Salomons and Rejoice Anthony, chaplain at St. Jude’s Care Home lead this session designed for lay leaders who offer pastoral care as part of their parish’s ministry. Register here.
-Starting October 2, the diocesan missioner for youth, Lauren Odile Pinkney, leads YLead. This eight week course is designed to equip leaders working with youth with the skills to support youth on their spiritual journey. This course is online. For further details and to register, click here.
