The clergy couple, Stephen and Christine Rowe, can call each other dean-regional dean that is. Bishop Michael Ingham last month appointed Christine Rowe, the rector of St. Catherine's, North Vancouver, as regional dean of North Vancouver. She had been Archdeacon of Burrard while rector of St. Thomas, Vancouver, but had to give up that post when she moved to St. Catherine's.

Meanwhile, the regional dean of South Fraser and rector of the Church of the Epiphany in Surrey, Stephen Rowe, remains one of the ten regional deans in the diocese. In making his announcement, the Bishop thanked the Rev. Sarah Tweedale, who had served three two-year terms as regional dean in North Vancouver.

Conrad Guelke of St. Philip's, Vancouver, has been awarded an honourary doctorate by the Vancouver School of Theology, for his years of service on the seminary's board and his work as chair of the VST Property Management Corp. which oversaw the development of VST lands to allow for renovation of the Iona Building and creation of endowment funds. Meanwhile, the Rev. Lynne McNaughton, chair of the Ordained Ministry Division, earned a Doctor of Ministry in Spiritual Leadership from Columbia Theological School in Decatur, Georgia.

Ordained in June was the curate in charge of Christ Church, Hope, the Rev. Gail Newell, to the priesthood. New deacons are the Rev. Dr. Pitman Potter of St. Helen's, Point Grey, and the Rev. Elizabeth Mathers of St. Clement, Lynn Valley, North Vancouver.

Jon Cornish, son of the Rev. Margaret Cornish of St. Alban's, Richmond, was drafted to the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. He has been attending the University Kansas, where he set a record of 1,457 yards gained during his senior year, or 5.8 yards per carry, scoring eight touchdowns. Mother and son were both featured prominently in a story in the Vancouver Sun sports section recently.

Twenty-four people have agreed to spend considerable time helping run the Diocese of New Westminster.

At the national General Synod in Winnipeg, Dean Peter Elliott received a standing ovation for helping chair Synod. He was prolocutor, which is second only to the Primate. Three people from the diocese were selected to serve on national committees during the Synod: the Rev. Richard Leggett of the Vancouver School of Theology will be a member of the Faith Worship and Ministry Committee for the next three years; Executive Archdeacon Ronald Harrison continues on the Pensions Committee, and Mike Wellwood, former diocesan treasurer and business administration, is on the Financial Management and Development Committee. In addition Bishop Michael Ingham will continue on the national Council of General Synod (usually called "CoGs)

After a series of meetings, Bishop Michael Ingham accepted the resignation of the Rev. Peter Klenner as Rector St. Mark’s, Ocean Park effective July 31. His last service was the first Sunday of this July. Klenner renounced voluntarily his priestly Orders in the Anglican Church of Canada with the intention of having orders accepted, and being licensed by, Rwanda. He felt that the close vote at General Synod was a contributing factor to this decision. The Rev. Jonathan Blanchard, the Priest Assistant, will provide care for St. Mark’s until the future leadership can be determined.

The Very Rev. Peter Elliott, Dean of the Diocese, is on holidays and sabbatical, mid-July until mid-November, for a welcome recharging of the batteries that will include study, spiritual direction, reading, courses, exercise and travel. This coincides with the Bishop leaving for the Taize pilgrimage, and Bishop Michael INghamwill have his annual holiday in August. Until September 1, the Venerable Lou Rivers, Archdeacon of Capilano, is the Bishop’s Commissary, in consultation with Executive Archdeacon Ronald Harrison.
