Here is a wee note from the Diocesan Eco-Justice Unit.

Would you like to enjoy chocolate on Valentine’s Day? And be ethical?

There are some chocolate companies that have at least part of their chocolate ethically sourced.

The Cadbury Dairy Milk Bar is one.

Other bars in stores such as London Drugs, Choices and Whole Foods have a section of bars labelled fair trade.

Both Purdy’s and Rogers chocolates indicate on their website that they have ethically sourced cocoa for their  chocolate.

There are also specialty chocolate stores around the lower mainland that make a real effort to have sourced their cocoa beans ethically with decent  working conditions.

So check out the article here . You can enjoy some chocolate and support those companies that are at least making an attempt to be ethically-based.

You can also write to any chocolate company to encourage them to deepen their commitment to ethically source their cocoa and care of the environment and the well-being of those who work on the farms around the world.
