More than 35 percent of the baptisms in recent years at St. Chad’s are neighbours who came to Faith through the neighbourhood outreach of St. Chad’s. In 2003 average attendance at St. Chad’s for the one service in English was extremely small. Since then, worship at St. Chad’s has expanded to three services on Sunday (English, Mandarin and Cantonese), and a weekday Taizé service. Attendance for Sunday worship has more than doubled and membership in the parish has tripled.
On Sunday, January 9th, 2011 The Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord, Diocesan Communications Officer Randy Murray attended the 9:30am service of Eucharist with Baptism to take some photographs as the community welcomed First Year UBC student, Yushi Chen into the Christian Family.
At last October’s diocesan event, Serving Our Streets,St. Chad's Rector, the Rev. Paulina Lee in conjunction with longtime St. Chad's parishioner Elizabeth Coan gave a presentation that shared information about St. Chad's neighbourhood outreach ministry. On the printed material that they circulated at that event they very aptly summed up their ministry with this paraphrase of a quote from Mother Teresa, ‘We did no great things – only small things with great love.’
