Breaking news for September: the Book Club is joining forces with Movie Night for a September Double Feature…& beyond!

On Friday September 2nd,  we’ll be presenting two great films in one glorious evening. Join us for documentaries on nature & pilgrimage in the King Room / Library…one new to Movie Night, and the other back by popular demand!

IMGP3304-David (2)Force of Nature: The David Suzuki Movie

Doors open at 5pm for a 5:30 movie start. Force of Nature is a moving look at the life and ideas of one of Canada’s best-known scientists and dedicated environmentalists (and Vancouver resident) David Suzuki. Rumour has it this screening could just very well mark the long-anticipated return of Silmara to Movie Night! Pizza & popcorn to be served.

camino 2Walking the Camino: Six Ways to Santiago:

Starts at 7:30 pm. BoGuy will bring chocolate for us to share for dessert!

The Camino de Santiago or Way of St. James, one of the most important pilgrimage routes in Europe. Pilgrims have travelled this route since the Middle Ages, and today it is an extremely popular destination, attracting more than 200,000 walkers annually.

This movie was shown in April, drawing Movie Night’s second biggest audience ever. Curtis & Silmara have been flooded with requests for an encore, and Guy has been planning a pilgrimage theme for Book Club…so it makes perfect sense to bring all the elements together!

book club 2Book Club in action.

Book Club will devote two sessions to this theme: the movie on the Friday night, followed by their regular Book Club session on Sunday September 4th.This will be a freestyle session, and participants are encouraged to pick a title of interest about the Way of St. James, and share what they’ve read with the group. The Vancouver Public Library offers a wide selection of books on the subject, and to help people with their choices, Guy has prepared a list of the Library’s holdings–please see him if you’re interested.

All regular Movie Night guests are encouraged not only to enjoy the reprise of the Camino film, but also to join Book Club on Sunday for the follow-up. Likewise, we encourage all Book Club regulars to check out the David Suzuki film and stay for the Camino documentary.

Of course, anyone who has not yet attended either group is more than welcome to make September 2nd your first foray into Book Club and Movie Night.

Guy, Curtis & Silmara are thrilled about this first collaboration between their respective ministries. With prizes to be given away and other surprises in store, this is an evening not to be missed. Help them make it a smashing success…it would be great to bring you a sequel!

Please enter via the External Red Door with signage  of LABYRINTH and MASCALL. Go down the right stairs and be greeted by our movie host(s). Get your free drink, popcorn & even pizza. Have a bit of fellowship with your fellow movie buffs.

The 1st film starts at 5:30 pm in the King Room (lower level adjacent to the Church Hall).

This is a FREE event, however, donation is greatly appreciated. No registration is required.
