David Facey-Crowther, Movienight host, will be introducing and presenting a favourite movie of his, namely Nanni Moretti’s gently moving 2011 film Habemus Papam – We Have a Pope.

Starring veteran actor Michel Piccoli, this film is set in the not-so-distant days following the death of a long-serving beloved Pontiff and the election of his successor. The new pope, however, is a reluctant one and the movie tells the story of man struggling to make sense of the massive responsibility suddenly and unexpectedly placed upon him. With the pressures of the media, the faithful, his cardinals and an atheist psychiatrist all bearing down on him, the new Pope flees the Vatican for a soul-searching journey through Rome, He reaches back to his roots as an actor as the film explores the nature of those untaken paths of our lives, those alternate decisions and what-ifs.

Funny, moving, sad and bittersweet all at the same time, you won’t want to miss this special Movie Night screening.
